Leading human rights defender Khurram Parvez was arrested by Indian authorities on September 16 under the Public Safety Act. This arrest was in the midst of a summer of violence, protests, militarization, and heightened tensions in Kashmir. Parvez is coordinator of the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS), which promotes human rights and justice in Kashmir.
Many activists and scholars around the world have mobilized to seek Parvez’s release. CKS’s Ather Zia recently spoke with Tara Dorabji on KPFA’s APEX Express about the #FreeKhurram campaign.
“Khurram is a role model, and he is one of the most vocal voices of Kashmir today,” Zia tells Dorabji.
