On September 15, leading Kashmiri human rights defender Khurram Parvez was arrested by Indian authorities on his way to a UN Human Rights Council Session in Geneva. Parvez is the coordinator of the Jammu Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (JKCCS).

Many CKS members are actively involved in an international campaign seeking Parvez’s release. This video, by CKS’s Haley Duschinski, explains Parvez’s importance to Kashmiri society.

“Khurram is the heart and soul of civil society in Kashmir,” Duschinski describes. “Khurram is a bridge across society, and a  bridge to the future. He is light in an otherwise black hole of violence, lawlessness, and impunity.”

Duschinski urges the international community to join the campaign to free Khurram Parvez, linking to a Facebook page for more information.
