This lovely fiery sunset also depicts the political turmoil that prevails upon the region since 1947. during my fieldwork this summer a fresh uprising for self-determination and independence from India started that has till date claimed more than 50 lives and over 3000 wounded especially blindings due to the use of shotguns/pellet guns by the Indian troops. my doctoral work (concluded in 2014) focused on the disappearances of Kashmiri men enforced by the indian army. this summer i conducted an engaged anthropology project through the Wenner Gren foundation with my host community the Association of Parents of the Disappeared persons. – Ather Zia
